Meet Abby

Like so many of us, I read a book or two while I was pregnant with my first child and decided I had this whole sleep thing sorted.

I figured when we got home from the hospital the baby would be on a three hour routine during the day and a four hour one at night and if I did get a little sleepy I would just sleep when the baby sleeps because maternity leave is full of rainbows and unicorns! Oh how wrong I was!

Every expectation I had of motherhood quickly came crashing down and what was left was a sleep deprived shell of my former self. It did get better when a tongue tie was diagnosed so feeding improved but the sleeping never really did and I had lost all my confidence. I have never felt so scared and anxious as I did sitting on my bed crying over my baby wondering what I was doing wrong and why I couldn’t get him to sleep. I felt like I was a failure as a mother, as a wife and as a woman in general. It was a horrible place to be and if anyone reading this has been there (which you probably have if you’re researching Sleep Consultants) I want you to know you are NOT a failure and help is at hand as soon as you’re ready.

I went back to my trusty books but I still couldn’t get the baby to follow the routine and in no way had I expected to react to the crying the way I did. I felt it in my soul! By about three months, I had connected with some women from Mother’s Group and I started to realise that I wasn’t alone and that many of them were having the same problems as me. Except for the smarty pants ones that claimed their baby slept through the night from three weeks and never shed a single tear. I didn’t like them very much. A few weeks later, one of the girls told us about her experience with a Sleep Consultant and her non-sleeper suddenly became a sleeper. I wanted in on the action so I booked a consultation and it was like magic… the baby slept for two hours! Then it was longer stretches at night! I was a new woman! I couldn’t believe it was so simple and easy! What was this witchcraft?

I started sharing my experience with my friends and soon their babies were sleeping too. This is what ignited the fire that has led me to pursue a career as a Baby Sleep Consultant. Studying with Baby Sleep Consultant Training opened my eyes to the science behind why sleep can be such a struggle and how to assess health, family situation, environment, dietary requirements, timing, culture and sleep associations which can all affect sleep before actually implementing any sleep training. There is no one size fits all solution, hence why the books didn’t work for me, it all depends on the family, the child and the environment and I will work with you to find a solution that is tailored to your specific situation so you’re never doing anything you don’t feel comfortable and 100% confident doing. My motivation as a Sleep Consultant is to help families get to a place where they are enjoying their children again. I’ve been in the dark place and I’ve made it my mission to help as many women (or families) as possible to get out of there or to never have to go there in the first place. You can read every book in the world but when that doesn’t work, you just need someone to hold your hand, whisper in your ear that they have your back and get started on your path to better sleep for everyone in the household. Fast forward to today and I have two happy healthy children 18 months apart in age and my crying over the baby days are a distant memory. WARNING: A well rested family may result in the unintentional addition of more children to the family 😉

Abby Rosamond is a miracle worker! Not only did she fix all my five month old’s sleeping issues (being fed to sleep, not able to self settle, and broken sleep), but she did it in a kind, caring and compassionate way. Her assessment of my baby was spot on – and we worked together to create an action plan that my husband and I felt comfortable with. While I was nervous about implementing the sleep training, her unwavering support and encouragement really got us through when it got tough. She’s extremely knowledgeable, and I really valued her explaining why we were doing things. She has changed my family’s life for the better. I cannot recommend her highly enough. As I say – miracle worker.
